On Friday, we were fortunate enough to catch another Stinkpot turtle in our trap! Dr. Lugthart from Dalton State College had asked us on Thursday if he could "borrow" any specimens we caught for an Earth Day event this past weekend. The turtle we caught in our trap had not been marked previously as part of the DSC Turtle study, so he weighed, measured, and marked "our" turtle to add to their data! Our turtle is #147 (there have been 146 Stinkpot turtles caught previously in the study). He weighed 146g, and his shell (carapace) was 10.2 cm long (carapace length), 6.9 cm wide (carapace width), and 4.3 cm high (carapace height). His plastron (the underside) was 6.7 long. You can see the "official" data collection sheet HERE! He marked the turtle by filing places along the edge of the carapace with a small triangular file (7, 40, and 100). Check out the slideshow below from our trapping and Dr. Lugthart's data collection!
